How To Publish and Earn On Okadabooks – Part 1

  1. Visit Okadabooks.com and the screenshot below should be displayed on your screen:

Click on the icon at the top left of your screen to sign in or create an account. See screenshot below:

2. Sign up if you are a new user. If you already have an account, then sign in. When you click on the icon at the top left, you will see everything on your dashboard. See screenshot below:

If you are a new user, click on ‘Profile’, just below ‘My Library’. Then click on ‘Edit’ beside your Profile icon and fill in all necessary details (your name, email address, location, phone number, bank account details, etc). You are now ready to start the publishing process. See screenshot below.

From the screenshot above, you have two ways to do this.

  1. Create Story or Series: Here, you have the options of writing from the scratch in your publishing dashboard, import articles or stories from your blog URL, upload your .docx or epub files.
  2. Upload File: This has the option of uploading your epub or PDF file. Yes. You read right. PDFs are allowed too.

Now let’s start with the first method:

Create Story or Series

  1. Click on the yellow box which is labelled, ‘Create Story or Series’. The page that opens up is what is shown in the screenshot below.

The field where you have ‘Untitled Part 1,’ is where you are to fill in your book title.

The fun part is, with this method, you can also write your manuscript in series, and publish in series.

If you want to write, please click on the text box below the title to start typing. You can also copy and paste your work in the editor, and edit it the way you want.

See the PREVIEW button at the bottom right? You can use it to preview the outcome of your work; that is, how your book will be displayed after it is published.

When you’re done, you will see the word ‘Publish’ in a black box, at the top right corner of your screen. Click on it, and give it some time to load. The screenshot below is what displays:

Continues below:

Now it’s time to fill in your details.

Title:

Author(s):

Category:

English:  (This is for you to choose the language in which your book is written)

Tags:  (These are keywords that best describe your book). Please write your tags one after the other, and do not leave spaces. After each keyword, hit the enter key.

For example, I’m publishing a book on business. My keywords will be something like this:

Business (Then I hit enter), Howtoeasilystartabusinessandgrowit (Then I hit enter), Thefoundationsofbusiness (Then I hit enter), etc.

Description: (Description of Your Book)

Price: (Try to make it not too expensive)

Book Cover: To upload your book cover, Please hover your mouse on the yellow dummy cover board. If you’re using a mobile phone, please tap on the yellow cover board instead. The words, “Upload Cover” in a yellow background will pop up at the bottom of the yellow cover board. Click on it, and you will get a pop-up notification. See example in the screenshot below.

As seen in the image above, the recommended size of our book cover is 280 x 431px. Please ensure you resize your book cover image before uploading it. You can resize your book cover here.

Click on ‘Update Cover‘. It takes you to your document folder so that you can select your already resized cover photo. Afterwards, please scroll down and click ‘Done’. Give it some time to load up and when it has, you will get a confirmation message. See screenshot below.

Click on ‘OK’ and you will be taken to the last part of the form.

It consists of three check boxes; you are supposed to tick the first two, depending on what your book is about and how you want it distributed. I’ll explain them below.

1. Disable on Web Store: This is a Digital Rights Managment protection for your book. With this, users can only purchase and read your book in the app. This prevents copy and paste theft as in the app, copy and paste isn’t supported. However, DRM protection is not supported on the Okadabooks web site. If you do not mind people accessing your book on the web and copying it, then you can ignore ticking this box.

Advantages of DRM Protection For Your Book:

a. It prevents users from illegally copying your book content and pasting them to God knows where.

Disadvantages:

a. Users find it easier to quickly buy books from the web store, than the app store. So this might mean your sales will be a little slow.Recommended Reading  Sample of What A Synopsis Should Look Like

Advantages of Non-DRM Protection For Your Book:

a. Users who surf the web store will quickly buy your book. Meaning, your sales will move faster.

Disadvantages:

a. Users will be able to copy your book’s content and paste it to wherever he/she feels like pasting it.

However, there are a lot of authors who still prefer the No DRM option, as they would like to have their book sales soar.

2. Adult: The second box is that of Adult content. Does your book contain explicit sex scenes? Does it contain very graphic details of horror or violent scenes? Then please, tick this box. If you fail to do this, see the warning below:

Warning: Publishing functionality will be disabled for content not properly marked as adult and such content/books will be removed from the store.

3. Terms and Conditions: Well, this is actually a very important one. If you do not agree to Our terms of use, you wouldn’t be able to publish on our platform. You can see our terms and conditions here.

After ticking all 3 boxes, you can click on Publish, as seen in the screenshot above. Please give it some time to load. After that happens you get a Success confirmation pop-up. See the screenshot below.

Okadatulations! Your book is now available for downloads.

Now, let’s explore the second option from Create Story or Series which is IMPORT:

Click on, ‘Create Story or Series‘ and the page below will come up.

Now instead of copying and pasting, or writing your work here, Simply click on “Import“, at the bottom left. Below is a screenshot of the page that loads up.

If you have published the story/article on a blog, or forum, and you’re too lazy to copy and paste, simply get the link of the story/article, and paste it in the first field. Then scroll down and click, ‘Import‘. Alternatively, if your book is in .docx or epub format, simply click on the black upward arrow in the second field to import the document. You will be taken to your document folder to select the document you want to upload. Afterward, click on ‘Import‘ at the bottom of the page. It takes you to the page below.

Yup! Everything is crammed up. So this is where you rearrange the text using the tools in the text editor. Don’t forget to preview before clicking ‘Publish‘. The next page is in the screenshot below.

After you’re done filling in your details, go below and click on Publish. Congrats! Your book is now live in the store and ready to be bought.

Now the second and last method of publishing is the PDF publishing method. It is easier and straight to the point, unlike the others. But your manuscript must be in either PDF or epub. You can go here to convert your manuscript to PDF.  Also, see how to convert your manuscript to epub here. Now the steps:

  1. Go back to the homepage of the website. Ensure you’re logged in.
  2. Click the pencil icon at the top left. Below is the drop down that will display.

Unlike the previous publishing methods, instead of clicking on ‘Create Story or Series‘, click on ‘Upload file,’ at the bottom of the drop down. You will be taken into your document folder and only PDFs and Epubs will be displayed for you to choose from. See sample screenshot below:

3. Select the PDF or Epub file you want to upload. It will automatically start to load up and your screen will display like this.

After your document has been uploaded, you will be taken to the book information page, where you will fill in all the book’s details.
